People working in HR, and not only, often talk about the need to invest in human resources and, more specifically, in the development of emotional intelligence, an essential component for the smooth running of communication and activities in the professional as well as in the personal sphere.
But how should employers go about this task? Find out more about this topic below!
What is emotional intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence (EI), also known as Emotional Quotient (EQ), is a concept that was coined in the 1960s. Today, it is associated with the name of Daniel Goleman, author of the bestseller "Emotional Intelligence", who explained "in plain language" the importance of this type of intelligence.
Unlike IQ, EQ is more difficult to measure, but this does not reduce its importance. According to studies by Goleman and other experts in the field, there are five main components of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy and social skills.
Surely, by now you have met people with high emotional intelligence. Even if you didn't know that this was the ability they possessed, you were probably impressed by their communication skills, their ability to listen actively, their resilience, their empathy, and the ease with which they resolved conflicts.
If you want to become such a person or if you want to help those you work with to evolve in this respect, the solution is simple. Take an emotional intelligence course and you will have access to professional tools for managing conflict situations, for improving relationships with others and for self-discovery.
