Burnout test: find out if you are heading towards an unwanted state of burnout!
Burnout can be classified as one of the diseases of the 21st century, alongside stress and depression. Even if we are not talking about a medical condition defined as such, the condition combines symptoms such as those described above, being a mental, emotional and physical exhaustion due to the professional environment (field, work schedule, difficulty of tasks, colleagues, etc.). If you feel that you are approaching such an outcome, it is important both to eliminate the causes and to ensure that you return to your best form.
Unfortunately, however, many employees neglect the effects of burnout and blame them on the "corporate environment", which is by definition a tough and competitive one. That's why we have prepared a mini questionnaire, with only 9 questions, each with the same 5 answer options (testing a greater or lesser degree of adequacy of the described situation with the one you are going through). Depending on which option you tick most often, we will make some suggestions at the end of the article.
BURNOUT TEST
1. Do you have trouble concentrating or making decisions?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
2. Do you become easily irritated by the presence of others?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
3. Do you feel dissatisfied or even disillusioned with your work or other responsibilities?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
4. Are you critical or cynical about your work or other responsibilities?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
5. Do you have difficulty starting a particular task at work?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
6. Do you have difficulty sleeping or feeling rested?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
7. Do you use food, medication or alcohol to keep anxiety or tension at bay?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
8. Do you hate the feeling of going to work or returning from leave?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often
9. Do you feel isolated and unsupported in terms of work and other responsibilities?
Never / Rarely / Sometimes / Often / Very often.
As you can see, each of the above questions is about a characteristic of burnout (lack of concentration, irritability, procrastination, lack of sleep quality, feeling isolated and powerless, etc.). The interpretation of the burnout test is very simple and intuitive, which is why you could do it yourself, but to save yourself the effort, read the following lines:
Most answers "Never" - you are in an enviable state of mental, physical and psychological balance, keep it up;
Most answers "Rarely" - sometimes your professional activity raises some problems, but their seriousness does not require "interventions";
Most answers "Sometimes" - recalibrate yourself, perhaps with the help of a leave of absence, and you will surely return to your best shape, professionally and personally;
Most answers "Often" - we recommend one of our Personal Development trainings, such as Problem solving, Emotional Intelligence, Motivational Momentum, Stress Management or Time management, which can "weigh" decisively in avoiding last second burnout;
Most of the answers "Very often" - it is time to take a break and think about what you keep and what you change in your professional environment, but also in your personal life, so that your health does not suffer in the medium and long term. Good luck!
